Envision Unlimited Member Andre Becomes Mental Health Forerunner

July 2024

Our member Andre wanted the world to hear his story, and the world has been listening. He and Envision Unlimited residential house manager Treena Glover sat down with WCPT 820 AM radio host Patti Vasquez to discuss the book they co-published, “Colorful Memoirs: A Journey Through Andre’s Life.”

The adult coloring book provides readers with creative snapshots of significant moments in Andre’s life, from playing childhood games with his sister to his graduation from Schurz High School. With support from his family and Glover, Andre courageously shares his story with others, inspiring them to seek solace and strength in their own journey.

“I’m a human being just like everybody else,” Andre previously told Block Club Chicago. “My story’s their story.”

Andre Jones with Congresswoman Delia Ramirez

The book also caught the attention of Congresswoman Delia Ramirez (IL-03), who honored Andre and Glover with congressional commendations in recognition of BIPOC Mental Health Month for their efforts to uplift the importance of mental health.

Congresswoman Ramirez acknowledged Andre in a speech she delivered on the floor of the House of Representatives and in a ceremony with roughly 20 other community members who received commendations.

“The congressional record would not be complete without you being a part,” she said.
