Our Employment Services places members in environments where they are given the opportunity to develop collaboration skills and self-confidence. Utilizing the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model, we create individual plans that help secure competitive employment within the community. This approach aids individuals in overcoming barriers that may prevent someone from obtaining and maintaining employment.

Program services include:

  • Assessment & Career Counseling
  • Job Coaching & Support Services
  • Job Placement
  • Transportation Arrangements Assistance
  • Job Training & Retention
  • Benefits Planning

Our team has helped members choose, obtain and retain community employment with organizations such as the Shedd Aquarium, Aramark, Home Depot, Target, Lowe’s, McDonald's, The Art Institute of Chicago, UIC, Jewel-Osco and Family Dollar.

Job Training and Placement provides job training, skill building and employment opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We have successfully placed individuals in retail, janitorial, clerical and food service positions.

Supported Employment teams identify and secure employment opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Staff routinely visit members at work to ensure that it is a positive and productive experience.

Research has shown that people with disabilities are three times less likely to be employed than their nondisabled counterparts, and those who do have jobs tend to earn less and have reduced hours. This is largely due to the persistent stigmatization of disability and the misconception that people with disabilities are less desirable as candidates.
