Healing Happens Here

July marks BIPOC Mental Health Month, a time for spreading awareness about the strengths and challenges that communities of color face when it comes to mental wellbeing.

To recognize this important month, our Cultural Faith-Based Empowerment Program hosted a community wellness celebration for all ages in South Holland, Illinois. The daylong program featured a series of workshops, African drumming, trauma-informed yoga, sound baths, light therapy, storytelling and more.

“BIPOC people have a particular way of healing, and that’s in community,” said Rev. Dr. Dawnn M. Pirani Brumfield, Director of Envision Unlimited’s Cultural Faith-Based Empowerment Program. “What is broken in community, heals in community. We tell stories, we dance.”
