A “Miraculous” Host Family Match
July 2023
“Family is not an important thing. It’s everything,” actor Michael J. Fox once said. That sentiment perfectly describes the relationship between our member Terrill and his host family. Terrill came to the Envision Unlimited host family program in 2021 after losing his mother and only uncle. After a detailed matching process and meet-and-greet, he was placed with Maggie Harris and her husband, who were both recently retired.
“It was simply miraculous,” said Latonia Everett, Envision Unlimited host family coordinator. “Terrill has become the son they never had and truly a part of their family. This is what the host family program is all about.”

The Harris family owns a Las Vegas summer home and travels every year with Terrill. He loves the annual trip, particularly the Fremont Street Experience. In 2022, they also took him to San Diego to visit their daughter.
The Envision Unlimited host family program allows adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live with a family in the community. The model is similar to foster care, in which a family owns or rents a home and works with Envision Unlimited for support and resources.
