We believe that creative endeavors nourish the mind and the body. From a Chicago Park District after school program to a gallery exhibit, from a spring morning at raised flower beds to a sunny farmer’s market, members and our community partners are engaging in experiences designed to stimulate the senses and provide a depth of experience unlike any other.
Arts Studio Program provides member artists with the opportunity to express themselves through a variety of artistic mediums and the opportunity for freedom of expression. Members learn how to weave on looms, create ceramic pottery, sew quilts, and explore their creative abilities. Whether hosting art exhibitions or pop-up workshops for people to learn from our artists, we thrive on experiences that connect our passion and purpose. Efforts also provide artists with opportunities to exhibit and sell work, receiving both recognition and financial compensation.

Our Experiences
- Two-dimensional art: Artists choose a medium: watercolor, acrylic and oil painting, drawing, and printmaking. Much of the art created in the studio is matted and presented in re-purposed frames that are restored in the studio.
- Textile arts: Fiber manipulation, including hand weaving, decorative embroidery, natural fiber spinning, rug hooking, and soft sculpture construction, results in recycled textile animals, dolls, woven items, and rugs. Also, the Weaving Mill is accessible via the Westtown Education for Textiles (WEFT) Program. WEFT provides members with the opportunity to learn textile design and production in a communal environment.
- Collaborative quilting: Kaleidoscope patchworks are made in social group settings with skilled eyes and hands selecting fabrics, cutting patches and stitching together meaningful and expressive pieces. The quilts are environmentally friendly and fashioned from fabric remnants.
- Ceramic construction: The Judy Henry Ceramic Center offers classes in hand building, wheel throwing and tile making as well as mosaic design and installation. A growing number of artists are becoming pottery enthusiasts, mastering techniques in creating professional, quality work.
- Culinary Program members prepare individual and group meals. Members participate in informal and paid formal events such as an annual Mardi Gras-themed dinner and a Farm to Table summer dining event.
- Media Club offers members hands-on, skill-building opportunities in photography, videography, editing, and broadcasting. By working with our skilled staff, members photograph and film various happenings from daily activities to events for which they’re compensated.
- Unlimited Voices is a member-written electronic publication that provides the autonomy to share their perspectives on the people and activities that impact their lives. Contributors author stories about activities, reflections, and hobbies, among other topics. Members experience a sense of pride from contributing to each unique edition.
